With the experience of two single collaborative pieces on Vidna Obmana's 'The Spiritual Bonding' and Alio Die's 'Suspended Feathers', Vidna Obmana and Alio Die have been exchanging thoughts on the idea of a full-lenght collaborative album since then. Due both artists' busy workschedule, the album was unfortunately postponed for several years. The long -awaited album, titled 'Echo Passage', was finally completed in early 1999 but it was actually thanks to the anticipation of both artists, the blending was fully realized upon a moment when both artists have been gaining extended in their own solo as collaborative projects. Both sharing the passion on long form, minimal and harmonic structures, they unite their vision and realized this introspective work of sixty minutes. It was just this foundation that set the place in the most natural way how the music could evolve and be composed. At times droning and abstract, sometimes ritualistic and ethnic, Echo Passage is the album which blends together both musicians' artistry in its most profund and spiritual form. VIDNA OBMANA's biography The moniker Vidna Obmana was chosen by this Belgian composer for his musical persona because it means 'optical illusion'. Fifteen years hence, Vidna Obmana still finds this name allows him a sense of freedom to place his music first before his own personality and philosophy. As s self-taught electronic musician, Obmana explored different musical realms before discovering the techniques of looping and shaping harmonies, merging layers of sound while minimizing the configurations to just a few notes. His style of atmosferic music creates trance inducing states in listeners who understand the language of sound. Embracing the challenge to leap into unknown and uncharted terrain, Vidna refines his minimalistic sound-sculpting while expanding the range of rhythms and performance on various acoustic instruments, like the fascinating Slovakian overtone flute eFujarai, and combining his array of sounds with contemporary elements, slowly changing pace with a great interest in the avantgarde. Recognized internationally for his solo and collaborative work spanning over twenty-four albums issued on several different labels, commissioned works for the Dutch National Radio, Zoo Antwerpen and several Belgian video art produtions, including his critically acclaimed releases on Projekt, Soleilmoon, Multimood and more recently Hipnos. The back catalogue has been reissued on subsidiary Projekt's label called Archive: continuous productivity has paved the way for expanded visibility and recognition of Vidna Obmana. ALIO DIE's biography Alio Die/Stefano Musso studied art and electronics in his home town of Milan, Italy and began performing under the name of Alio Die in 1989. Characterized by evocative acoustic sounds manipulated and tendered electronically, Alio Die'works builds intimate soundscapes tied to the mystery and majesty of life and nature. His self released 1992 debut 'Under an holy ritual' was received with international acclaim, and subsequently released on Projekt in the U.S. He has since then released 5 solo albums and various collaborative albums with artist as Robert Rich ('Fissures' on Hearts of Space), Ora ('The door of possibilities' on Hic Sunt Leones), Antonio Testa ('Healing Herb's Spirit' on Crowd Control), Raffaele Serra ('Five Thousand Spirits'). Another important collabotaion will be with Amelia Cuni. She is known for her expertise in the vocal music of Dhrupad, a specific medieval and traditional indian music genre which is considered to be an effective method of prayer and contemplation. |
