GLOD has recently released their new CD entitled 'Gnosis'. The word 'Gnosis' is taken from the Greek, and was chosen because it denotes a positive or revelatory knowledge, a state of metaphysical recognition often triggered through paradoxical means. This paradox is reflected in the old magickal maxim, 'To know, to dare, to will, to keep silent.' Glod's self-styled form of gnosis lies in their lack of silence. Theirs is a seemingly ancient music, yet it takes full possession of the technological tools at hand, a 'shamanic synthesis' of the old ways redefined by the chaotic, apocalyptic energy of the end of the century.
On this, their second CD, GLOD continues to forge their own unique aural alchemy, which defies superficial attempts at pigeonholding them into any one convenient category. This release is in the trademark Glod vein, yet ventures into altogether new sonic territory. With 'Gnosis', Glod explores ritualistically styled old -aeon elegies using the interplay of violin, trumpet and kettledrums juxtaposed with sublimely textured samples, non-traditional guitar and aggressive bass. They weave sinuous and seductive rhythms, psychedelia-tinged trance laden with atavistic percussion and ecstatic vocal chants. For Glod it's the means that matter in creating their music, as much as the end result.
GLOD is, as ever, guided by the chaos through the originality of mistakes.
Their music is crafted layer upon layer, slowly and intricately taking on a life all it's own.
Most of the recording, mixing, and production is done by GLOD in their own studio, and this process of experimentation is evident in the risks they take with their art. On past releases, Glod has been accused of being too obscure. On their latest venture Glod lays bare their intent: to use( sound as energy for the transmutation into the new millenium.
